Currently I backup the database using a database maintenance plan that puts the backup copy of a drive of the local server. I also have a mapped drive to another SQL Server and I would like to be able to back this up either directly to the other server or to put in place a job that would move the database backup file to the other server. Reason being is I am low on disk space on the production server.

You cannot use the drive mapped in Windows. SQL Server and SQL Agents are services and run in their own context. Thay don't have access to drives mapped by Windows. Even if a user is logged in on the server with a nmapped drive, that drive is not available to SQL Server. Note that the services run whether or not anyone is logged into Windows.

You can backup using the UNC address:

\\servername\share\folder\databasename.bak If you want to get the best answer for your question read faq183-874 and thread183-468158.
