I've used cleaning tapes and brand new tape to try and backup the Octel. Keep failing the schedule backup, saying Tape Drive Reset. What does this mean? Reboot the Octel?

Are you sure you are using the right tapes? the Octel has a DAT 2 or a DAT 3 drive and the DAT 2 tapes will work in a 3 but not the other way around.

Also what software is on the Octel as in some of the lower versions you had to kick the tape drive by removing it or rebooting sometimes. Do not do this unless you know how to busy out the drive before you reseat it.

Hi,

Thanks for the response. The Tape Drive Reset error message is gone now. I did pull the Tape Drive out of the socket and pushed it back in after 10 seconds while the system was up. I successfully did a backup. Can you believe it, it hadn't backup in 2 years? Though I've only been here 1.5 years, no one showed me how to do it until recently. Realized it is such an easy thing to do.

Thanks Ken and thanks to the Octel Technician who guided me over the phone.
