I use ArcServer 6.61 NT with an HP Surestore 1/9 Autoloader. In an ideal world, I would do a full backup every night. I have LOTS of data, so a year ago, I went to a Full Backup on Sat night and Differentials Monday - Friday. This worked well for a while.
Now, I have so much data (about 143 gb) that my Sat night backup goes to 4 tapes and runs into Sunday evening. The differentials remain at 1 tape.
I have been trying to decide what to do. I have examined each server, and what I backup and I need about 95% of it.
My question: what do other organizations with lots of data do for backup? Should I do a full backup monthly and differentials the rest of the time? Should I break up my backups into separate jobs?
How can I possibly protect all of my data, still have efficient backup times, not have so many tapes in one backup set AND be able to easily retrieve tapes and restore data as needed.
Any insight is appreciated.
