If i have a w2k sql server with a tape backup device, and a w2k exchange server, can i schedule backup exec ver8.5 to back them both up from the sql server ???
I have install the sql agent on the sql server and the exchange agent on the exchange server.

Hi Abarcad,

The answer to your question is yes.

First of all because you are backing up another server you need to have a remote agent service on the remote server.

Push out the remote agent service onto the Exchange Server using the Backup Exec setup program. (requires remote agent license key) - the Exchange server will require a reboot after doing this. As you have already installed the Exchange option component, you wont have to do this again.

If the Exchange server version is 5.5, then install the Exchange Administrator on the SQL (backup) server.

If the Exchange server version is 2000, then install the Exchange Manager on the SQL (backup) server.
(Backup Exec uses the above to communicate with the information store)

In your help/about you should have the following keys:
BE server (or advanced or datacenter depending on your backup server)
SQL option
Exchange option
remote agent option.

Hope this helps and may the force be with you!!
