backup software that makes backups look like a volume

I am looking for software that I have heard of that allows users to archive their data to a DLT and have practically real time access to it. It basically looks to them that they are accessing a server volume. But, they are actually alias' for files on the DLT. So they access the alias, it copies the file locally and they can manipulate that.

Does that sound familiar to anyone?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ah HA!
So I finally discovered what the tech is called for which I was looking. Near-line storage. Thank you all...I will take it from here. Unless anyone has any info concerning their experiences with Near Line Storage.
