I have been using Arcserve for 4 years and it was ok until I got these tape libraries and super dlt drives. It would be different if it never worked at all, but I get 3 days of perfect backups and then the dreaded cant read, position or find media errors surfaces. I need someone to recomend a good backup software I can change to, that I dont have to fight with on a daily basis. Any suggestions appreciated.

Hmmmm, just a question, have you the NT drivers loaded? A good backup software you may want to consider would be Net Backup or Enterprise Backup. By the way, Enterprise backup is not a suped up ARCserve, it is actually a different "High Performance" Product with the same look. Net Backup is good aswell but is quite user un-friendly.

Choice is yours.

What do you mean Nt drivers? This is a 2000 server. And I have the drivers loaded as Overland suggest. I use no Overland drivers for the librarys, only 2000 drivers. I do not have drivers loaded for the tape drives either. This is how Arcserve has always handled these drives. I just connect up the libraries. load Arcserve and it configures the drives and it always works at first then boom!!! Who, knows, maybe these super dlt drives are not ready for prime time yet.

Yeah, maybe.... It;s just that you shouldn't have any window drivers for the library or the drives loaded. I was just checking. Have you checked these on the compatibility list for ARCserve?

anyway, Happy New Year!

Yes I believe I did. I am sure it is. It is very common drive. I just seems strange that everything works fine for 3 days. Both libraries go through 5 or 6 tapes and then it just starts having errors. Once you reload the tapes and reboot everything it seems to do the same thing. Work for a while. I have replace all of the hardware several times except for the actual server. Got to be software.

You might check to see if there is any firmware upgrade for the libraries. I had similar problems with an HP LTO drive that a firware update fixed.
