I've been looking at two software hard drive backup programs: True Image 11 Home by Acronis (recommended by Computer Power User Mag.) and Perfect Image Professional by Avanquest. As would be expected, both manufacturers tout their products as superior to all others. I've not been able to locate a head to head comparison of the two software packages. Any opinion on these options?

Thanks
Bob

I've been using Acronis True Image since CPU rated it back on version 6 or 7. I use it to backup my laptops and desktops and also create a bootable recovery disk. One nice feature is that it allows you to open an archive and treat it as a drive letter and read anything from it (great for retrieving old documents/programs).

In fact, we use it at work to provision new desktops from a central image we made configured and with all the appropriate software already installed.

We take a new empty machine, insert the bootable cdrom we made, turn it on... it searches the network and finds the image(s) which allows us to restore from any one of them and asks what we want the IP and hostname to be then proceeds loading the HDD. Upon completion it reboots and we have a working system.

I've tried others such as Ghost and they don't even come close. I have not tried the other you referenced but hey, it Acronis works, why would one change?

Good luck and I hope this helps.

Hi Bob,
Thanks for that info. I have Norton SystemWorks which includes Ghost but it's a resource hog & I'm plannning on changing my AV app before my subscription runs out. This gives me a valuable utility to replace Ghost. Thanks for sharing this info!
