Greetings!

I'm looking for opinions on backup software for an enterprise level. I'm currently using the EMC/Legato Networker product, but I wanted to get opinions on other software from folks "in the trenches".

I'm looking at the product from Bridgehead, but haven't seen too much about it. I would also like opinions on the other software systems out there like Netbackup, etc.

Thanks in advance!

Hi

I've used Netbackup, Legato, TSM and CommVault and though they all have strenghs and weaknesses I now think that CommVault stands way above them all.

Definately take a look at it.

Legato is cool. It's management console is the best in the industry. Take a look.

You must be joking swaroopgr...CommVault's management console is 'the best in the industry' ;-)

You can run backup, HSM, replication, compliance archiving etc all from 1 console.

Definitely Commvault. I migrated to CV from Legato and wouldn't dream of going back. Commvault is policy driven from the ground up, so it takes a while to get the hang of it. I've been running it for about 3 years now and enjoy it as far as backup apps go. I took 2 classes (only because they threw them in with our purchase) - the entry and advanced. By the time I took the advanced, I knew as much as the instructor though. Commvault releases a lot of patches, but the method of applying them is pretty straightforward and not very risky provided you keep your database dumps.

Moved from Backup Exec to CommVault 2 years ago and it has been a near perfect solution.

Count me in on the CommVault bandwagon.

I use Legato Networker and this is a great solution, however it seems to me that CV is a strong and solid solution too.

Best Regards,

Drakis
