Ok here's the deal; I'm trying to backup a Lotus Notes server using BrighStor v9 (client for Lotus Notes) but I get an error on the server side Error 3392 Backup server TCP timeout. I have emailed CA with this problem and they keep telling me to locate a registry entry and change the value. I have sent them 2 emails telling them that the entry is not there! Infact the first set on instructions pointed me to ARCserve not BrightStor.

Anyway, they said to locate useTCP and it the entry is 1, change it to 0, if it is 0 change it to 1 (logic?)

Any Ideas

I had a similar problem when backing up a remote SQL server and I fixed it by increasing the TCP timeout values. There is a registry key named TCPTimeout some place in the registry. I believe it is under a key named DBAgentSettings. Not sure of the full path, but the key may help. It is used to set the number of seconds for send and receive timeouts.

Does anyone have more detail on this change in the registry. I am getting this error when my job fills the first tape and is waiting for the second tape to be installed to complete the job the next morning.

I am still having this issue. I have come across an article on the FAQ's of CA's web site that suggest increasing the Group inactivity timeout setting in the BAOF configuration tool. I have increased it from the default period of 120min to 600min i.e. 10 hours so that should give me enough time to get in and change the tape.

I post if this fixes it.

These are the changes we make to the registry

Registry key for Client 2000 = HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE\ComputerAssociates\ARCserveIT\ClientAgent\Parameters
Variable = ReceiveTimeOut = 43200 (dec) = a8c0 (hex) = 12hours
Variable = SendTimeOut = 43200 (dec) = a8c0 (hex) = 12hours

should also ensure upgrade to sp4 acrserve v7 as this has connection fixes, also set the client to find by ip address as i have found on our clients poor over strained little network, delay in finding wins database can cause reconnection issues.
