Backup scripts

Hi everyone,

I want to put a Group Policy in place so that anytime a user log offs of their machine, a backup of their My Documents, Application Data and Desktop is performed and backed up to their user folder on the server. I don't see anything built into GPedit so I'm wondering if anyone knows a script that I can run to do this. I'd like to do full backups each time. Thanks.

Under GP you have the options to enable logoff scripts (never used one myself), but if you need to script it you can include the following command

Ntbackup backup "source" /j "job name" /f backupfile.bkf

Why don't you just configure Folder Redirection group policy and have all these folders/files directed to the server? Then all their files can be backed up regularly with the normal server backup.

And how would I specify that I want to backup 3 different directories to that users folder on the server? Their folder resides on \\ourserver\Users\bob ...what variable would I use so that each user would backup to their appropriate folder and with only those 3 aforementioned directories?

The problem with folder redirection for us is that it boggs down the network...people are copying lots of files and accessing the network repeatedly...we want to keep everything local and then when they log off for the day...backup those 3 core folders so that we have a daily backup of it.

If you think about what you just said, you'll find there really is no difference over folder redirection. You're still copying the same data across the same wire. With backups, you're copying the same data over and over and over again.
