The consultants tell me that SAP has its own backup facility, i can't see anything on the sap site and know seems to know about it.

One persons tells me to add the Microsoft SQL database to the Veritas backup, i can't see anything wrong with this??????????

It will backup my config and all data + software won't it?
Would i select the programs folder and the system state+ data?

What are the options?

( i have a HA server as well)

Why not just back up the whole server. It should be dedicated to SAP anyway.

Is your HA system failover (cluster) or the Stratus HA (fault tolerant) system?

It will be just an SAP server. I'm sorry i don't know i think it is failover. It uses Log shipping.

What should i use to backup the whole server? it is on windows. Does SAP have this function?

Tape drive usually comes with backup software. Windows also has some backup capabilities. Since this is an SAP system, your BASIS people should be handling this. Personally, I would not run SAP on Windows.

Thanks-

The consultants solution was to use SAP to backup the DB to disk then use windows backup to disk then .bat to move all backups (test system db and live) onto the server with the tape drive . Sounds Crap to me, they didn't seem to know what there solution was. This would take up alot of disk space- too much. and a fair bit on traffic.

Vertias is what i hoping for. They will come back to me on the agents/addons needed. I will post them.

although vertias is expensive and the above solution is free.

and they are pssobile problems with vertias and windows 64bit.
