Hi everyone,

I have a situation where we are implementing a DR location and we will have two mirrored VM environments, one in each location. The VM's will be mirrored on both sides and synced with some software using our maintenance VLAN. I need the production VLAN to be available in our remote DR location for these VM's but to only be active and routable in the case where our production site cannot be accessed by our remote DR site.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

you have a few choices..

option 1 (more expensive and assumes you have cisco):
OTV across both sites.
servers are active / active at both dr and current location.
they answer to VRRP address of your two routers.

Site 1 ============================ Site 2
N7K === == ====== OTV ==== === === N7K
|==============================|
Router1 ======================= Router2
|==============================|
|==============================|
==============================
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~|VRRP IP : .1 gateway
Option 2:
Routers at each site advertise through either OSPF or BGP or if you have cisco EIGRP
router at site 2 will have a offset list attached to its interfaces advertising the same routes as router1 except with a bit more cost.
This way router 2 will NOT be used IF and only IF router1's routes are removed from your network due to outage.
either way YOUR DR will need a core and a router..
unless you describe what you have at your DR and how its connected to your current site its very hard to come up with a solution that would work for you ..
assuming you got $$ you have options.
assuming you dont have $$ then you need to tell us exactly what you currently have and im sure there is a solution out there..
