Trying to backup a remote W2K workstation from W2K server running BE 8.5. When I try to create the backup job and select the workstation from the list, it asks for a username and password before connecting to the workstation. I have tried all admin passwords, etc.. but nothing works.
Does something else need to be installed onto the workstation before it can be backed up? It is already running the Remote Agent service for Win 2000.

Try putting in the backup exec service account username and password, I think this maybe what it needs, you may even need to create a local user with admin rights on the remote machine and connect as this user. I'm a little rusty at the moment, hope it maybe helps

Cheers

The documentation says that to backup a remote W2K station, you must have the Backup Exec Remote Agent add-on installed on that machine.

Try that?

Also - I had that exact problem on a WinNT 4.0 machine when a number of services that should be running were stopped. When I turned them all back on - Backup Exec could access the machine.

Check that any security protocol, protected storage, RPC, Event Log and messenger services are running on your remote PC.

Good Luck!
