Backup Question

OK I have a question here about SQL Backup.

I have a DB on Machine 1 and I need to backup the DB to machine 2. Here is my question, with out touching Machine 1, how can I backup this DB. I know that I can pull the Data from Machine 1 to Machine 2 via DTS, but is this an exact copy of the DB? IE, could I restore the DB from Machine 2 to Machine 1 without a hitch or is there more too it than that? I have thought about just mapping the network drive, but that would require that I get on Machine 1, which I do not want to do. Or I could attach my machine to the DB through Enterprise Manager, but I really don't want to do that Either, unless I absolutly have to.

Please note that I do have a DTS pull once a day in the morning on Machine 3, could I just backup that Data with SQL Backup, then push it to Machine 2. If I were to restore this DB, would it be the same as the DB on Machine 1?

Thanks in advance

Mel

The only way that you would be able to restore the database from machine2 to machine 1 and not have any problems would be if you could ensure that you had all the tables, views, procedures, and indexes copied over. None of which would be copied over using your method. The only way to create a backup of a database will be to use the server which hosts that database. A database backup is a very easy operation for the server to perform. It will not effect users, as a matter of fact the users shouldn't even know that a backup is in progress.

You can call the backup through a job on machine1, or manually through query analyser or osql from a command line. You don't need to be on the console or anything like that.
