I'm attempting to back up the SharePoint farm using the tool in SharePoint 3.0 Central Administration.
When I click "OK" on "Step 2: Select Backup Options" I get the following error:

"Directory \\unitedwayfs\i$\DBBackup\AlignBackupNightly\ does not exist or the SQL Server service account
and the ALIGN\Administrator service account do not have permission to read or write to the backup folder.
Specify a different directory."

The folder exists and can be located from the SharePoint server, so the issue seems to be one of rights/permissions.
I've researched this problem but have not come up with a simple description of exactly what accounts need to have access.

Does anyone have any ideas or some documentation to which you can point me?

Thank you in advance,

Emjay

I encountered this. Once i got the SQL Server service account from my dba and gave it permissions on the backup directory share, it worked as expected.
