Hi!

I'm trying to backup 600 GB with one Backup Server and an attached HP Surestore Library (60 slots) with 2 LTO Ultrium drives over Gigabit LAN. Each drive is attached to one Adaptec SCSI Controller (29160LP).
The data ist stored on two clusters.
We are using Windows 2000 Advanced Server and Legato Networker 6.2.

The Performance ist very low. The backup needs about 40 hours to complete. I tried to copy a 500 MB file from one cluster node to the backup server and it took me 2,5 minutes. So this should be my problem.

Do you have any idea how to improve performance?
We use Compaq Gigabit cards with actual drivers (3.63.363).

Thanks in advance,
Speridal

Rather than use the compaq drivers, use intel drivers.

There is an issue with the latest compaq drivers (3.63). Use the latest Intel E1000 drivers.

Look at a recent thread that was posted regarding Gigabit NIC cards:

Networker 6.1.1:doesn`t backup

Compaq told me that we should use auto-sensing on the nics and the cisco catalyst 4000 switch. They say that the drivers only have problems when using backup software not when doing copy jobs.
What is your experience?

I cant change the drivers at the moment because the servers are productive.

When I use NetIO to send packets (size of 1-32 kbyte/packet) over LAN, i get normal performance results (55-75 MByte/sec). The program operates on OSI Layer 3.

A simple thing to try, but try setting software compression (in directive for the client) , so that you would be sending less data over the network (assuming the data is suitable for data compression).
