Dear all,

hopefully you can help me with this one. i have a scheduled daily backup on veritas 8.0 and since a couple of weeks it keeps on failing.
the drive is hp and does recognizes the tape (it tells me the volume name etc.) . when i check the system monitor in the morning though', the it tells me that the tape is still loading (10 hours or something). what is wrong? is the drive broken? is there a possibility i can clean the drive? how do i do that? i tried my cleaning tapes but it doesn't help. the door doesn't close either when a tape is inside. is that normal?

thank you so much for your help

Tape loading should take no more than 5 minutes or so. If the tape drive is a separate stand-alone unit, try stopping the backup services, power-cycling the tape drive, and then restarting backup services. If it's installed into your PC then trying rebooting the entire machine. Sometimes Backup Exec "loses track" of the tape drive for whatever reason and this will help bring it back.

I wouldn't worry too much about the drive door. A lot of tape drive doors stay open while a tape is inside.
