I need to add a trunk card to a MICS XC 3.0. I am a bit wary to shut the system off, add the card and then loose the memory. I've never worked with this customer before and I don't want to be stuck reprogramming the whole system (100+ phones 16 trunks).

I want to do a backup using the fastrad using a direct connection. Any idea on how long it will take to do this backup?

Also, since I want to add a trunk card in the trunk module, is it is possible for me to only shut off the trunk module, add the card and turn the trunk mod back on WITHOUT shutting the whole KSU down?

I would make a backup first. It won't interfere with customer operations.

I don't think you can shut down the trunks box without crashing the software.... What I usually do is go there before noon, install my notebook and start the backup, then go out for lunch. I make sure I'm back before the staff, so I can go at the console and put every line on hold as they are available so I don't shut any ongoing communications, then shutdown, wait 5 seconds, push the card in, plug power back, and that should do it.

I never lost software configuration when adding modules, but I definitly recommend making a backup first.

Your described method has worked for me in the past, and its what I would do again...but maybe I was just lucky

when you are doing a backup this large, will it cause the switch to stop processing calls?

I've never lost a configuration by unpluging a trk module. Its the way I add cards to them also. All you get is an alarm at the console.

If the card is going into a TM, I disable the TM in maintenance first. Unplug the TM and install the line card and then power up the TM. Configure the line card in maintenance if it other than a loop start card and then enable the TM. Never had a problem with this.

But doing a back-up is always a good idea.

worked like a charm, just disable, shut off and re-enable. what we found is that all CI cards in the TM have a crackle or staticky sound. even a new card did not fix it.

Could it be the Trunk Mod? I've never seen a TM go bad.

Be sure the lines coming into the trk mod. are not noisy
check also the cable between ksu and module and between module and 66 block
