hi all, i have got sybase installed in one for the partitions in my 8GB hdd. OS is solaris 2.6. i need to know the exact syntax to dump all the sybase information into a DAT tape. sybase version: ASE 11.5. many thnaks !

hello,

first you need to add the dump device to the SQL server by running the following SQL:

sp_addumpdevice "tape", logical_name, physical_name, size
go

then you can backup...

dump tran database_name to device_name
go

remember dumping locally you can use the logical_name or physical_name...
remotely, you need to use the physical_name.
