Hi
Our Novell(4.11) server 'backup' has been running fine(we run Arcserve IT), usually taking 3 hours, now without us making any changes to anything it has decided to take nearly 12 hours.
Any ideas welcome?

Many thanks
Stu

I had exactly the same problem except that we use an NT server. Likewise we had changed NOTHING at all about the backup procedure, and nothing at all on the tape drive.

However, we did manage to find out that there were two problems. One was that the tape drive was faulty, so we got it replaced. (Have you tried that?)

The other was that we had major problems on the network with connectivity. This affected the backup by changing it's time taken from 4 hours to 56 hours!! Although we are still investigating the network connectivity issues, I did manage a way around it for now. I set all data servers up as Client Agents and ran the backup through these agents instead of across the network. This speeds up backup time tremendously. Not sure if maybe you already do this, or how this would work on Novell. But it worked for us in the meantime. Interestingly, I did log a Tech Support call with CA about this, and after 2 months, they could still not work it out!
