Hello all,

I want to user sql enterprise manager to backup the sql database. But the database size is larger than the tape capacity.

I have tried to create the scheduled job in database property, but it seems that it stop without prompt me to replase any tape.

Is it pssible for the manager prompt me to change tape?
Can anyone tell me the proper way to create job in MS sql 2000.

Many thanks.

Not sure if you can change tapes. Can you save the backup to disk and then compress it before sending it to the tape?

The database is about 100G.
It is not possible to backup to a local disk.
Also, it seems that it cannot backup to a network drive?

Can anyone help?

The GUI will not let you select a network path. You can however enter a full network path and backup to that.

I do not think that SQL will prompt you to switch tapes.

Does MS SQL support sewuential backup.

I have been told that create media set can solve this problem.
But it seems not work.
Anyone, have tried it before?

You can do file group backups. If you have multiple file groups you can backup your database this way.

No idea. I've always used an autochanger when backing up directly to tape (via a 3rd party backup utility).

Hello Michael,

Do you means create more than one network drive to form a file group.

Many thanks.

No, what I mean is backup your file groups to tape. Or to your hard drive compress it and then to tape. Depending on the size of your file groups you can put multiple file group backups on singe tape. When the tape cannot hold anymore file group backups just backup the remaining file groups to another tape or tapes.
