When I schedule a job in BE 8.0 the job goes to "hold" right away. I've checked the history (renamed the dir.), reloaded the software, deleted the Que. I can rewind the tape and eject the tape. I ran tests from the scheduler and it passes. Still goes to hold. I'm thinking of deleting the software and reinstalling. Does anybody have any other ideas? I am using Netware 4.11 SP 7.

What happens when you do a <Ctrl>T to change the job from Hold to Ready?

James P. Cottingham

<a href= Veneer Co., Inc.
All opinions are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect those of my employer.

The job will refuse to go to ready or active if you try to change it. Today however, I renamed the Bkupexec dir in sys ( I didn't care to keep any data since it was so long between a complete backup) and loaded 8.5 (I had 8.0) and the patch to go with it. It seems to be working fine now. I may never know why it all of the sudden stopped working, but I do remember working on another problem on the server which might have caused it.
I am having a similiar problem. I just got back from vacation, backups were working fine before I left, now they aren't. After the job is submitted, it remains ready until it is time to start. Instead of going to active it goes to hold. When I <Ctrl> T to take the job off hold, it gives me the following message:

Job <jobname> was on hold because its target partition is on hold. It is now on user hold as well. When the target partition is made ready, this job will remain on hold until it is toggled back to ready. Press any key to continue....

I have booted the backup server. Any ideas, anyone? We are running Netware 4.11, BE v8.5 with Open File option and Advanced Autoloader option.

The target partition should be the tape drive. It sounds like something has happened to the tape drive to cause it to be "lost" to BE. Did someone change a config file while you were gone? You may have to uninstall and reinstall BE to have it "re-find" the tape partition.

James P. It now works! Your reply got me thinking.....it was like BE couldn't find the tape drive....so I went into Job Manager -> Change Options -> Partition Mangement and sure enough, the partition status was "hold"....I took it off hold (Ctrl-T) and it changed the status to ready.....and it works!!!!!! As simple as that. Now how in the world the partition got on hold in the first place is beyond me, but at least it works. Yesterday when I realized it had been 2 weeks since we had a good backup I was really worried, and coming back from vacation to this mess has not been fun......Thanks for your help.
