Backup job hangs after estimation

Hi guys,

Wondering if you can help me as I can't find anything on CA's website...

When a backup job is started, whether it be an entire drive or single file, the job starts and looks fine. It goes through the estimation and then hangs as soon as that is completed. It then does that little trick were it appears in the Job Queue and can't be deleted or stopped...

I have deleted and recreated the backup job. I have created totally different backup jobs to test it. I have tried different tapes. The only thing that has stayed the same is the drive, which has been tested and is fine. All have the same result.

We are running Arcserve 2000 on SP4.

1-Try to disable job Estimation from backup/Options
and cehck if that help.

2-If the backup is working fine from NTBackup ,Try it,it worth to try it to isolate the problem whether it is from Arcserve of the Hardware.

3-Also try to do backup to Files System and see if that work or not.

4-What type of data your are backing up,try to backup small
amount.

Note:From server Admin Put the tape Engine & Job Engine is debug mode to get more info

Try running an ARCserve Copy job.

If it works then the problem might be Tape Engine related.

At that point then:
1) Verify the date of the Tape Engine faq478-3965. If it is older than July 8th install the latest Added Device Support update QO41394.CAZ.

2) Run a test with the Tape Eninge in debug mode faq478-3964.
