Backup Job Failing 1

I have set up a maintenance plan for backing up my SQL databases. The logs are generating the following error

Microsoft (R) SQLMaint Utility (Unicode), Version [Microsoft SQL-DMO (ODBC SQLState: 42000)] Error 4062: [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot open user default database '<ID>'. Using master database instead.

I have checked my ODBC connection and the default dbase is set to the Master. I am running SQL 7.0.

I would appreciate any help as I am having to manually backup the dbases.

Tried things listed in the Article. Does not seem to be the root cause of our problem.
