1.The activity log lists a small number of files from the "My documents" folder citing "sharing violation". What could be so special about these files?

2.Unable to open file:WINNT\security\temp.edb file EC=File not found
I gather this file is created temporarily to hold log entries while Active Directory log files that are full are being newly created. Is it possible, that it was backed up as a system file, and at subsequent backups when it is not present Arcserve regards it as a missing system file?

I am using full backup - clear archive bit.

If are running a static backup ( the green box being half shaded ) you will get this problem. So run a dynamic backup
( the green box should be fully shaded ) which will fix your problem.

Reason being arcserve will not know if the files are deleted in a static backup..

If you are trying to exclude files use FILTER option...

Thanks for the help databasebaba. I used to have dynamic backup, but that is when I got the errors described above.
Then I started to exclude some files by unchecking the green box, and I managed to get Finished status. (Of course I have to worry about not backing up all files.)
Most files showing the sharing violation error reside in the system folder.
Another puzzle: 'Unable to save the registry key KEY=software EC=disk full' But I got 900M free space.

I would reallt apprecaite if you can create a new thread for this puzzle..

But anyway... check this out...

Permissions on the arcserve sharing
use regedt32 and give permissions for each and every hive..
run a arcserve database maintenance

Rest in next ... after talking to my pals..

Also make sure you use the arcserve system account for
the job engine to start..
can check the arcserve system account from the arcserve
server admin console and click on the admin/arcserve system
account which should reveal the arcserve system account..
use this account for the job engine service to logon with..
isntead of the local system account..

also in the backup option/retry tab check having
"Use lock mode if deny write fails"..

Good Luck!
