Hi ALl,
The Computer guy decided the grass was greener somewhere else so I was asked to do The Backing Up Duties. I am new to ArcServe so if this is a dumb question I'm Sorry.
My questions are:
1) I'm getting a Status of Imcomplete for 2 of the 12 sessions on a tape. How do I find out why backup is imcomplete?
2) How do I set software to format tape if the label is not what it is asking for. It is no good to come in in the morn' only to find out no backup 'cause tape has wrong label.

We are running NT4.0 Service pack 6
and ArcServe ver 6.61 build 834SP1
Thank You
Karl S.

If you left click the job in the Job Status screen, you can modify the backup job. Click the options icon, it's the one on the tool bar beside the green light.

Click on the Backup Media tab. Choose the option to Overwrite same media name, or blank media first, then any media. This will use any tape you put in the the drive.

To see why a job is incomplete, you can look at the Activity Log tab inside Job Status. You'll see some yellow exclamation marks. These will cause a backup job to finish as "incomplete".

Good luck,
Debi

Usual cause of an "incomplete" backup is either a file that no longer exists, or a file that has been left open. When you check the backup log, the yellow "explanation marks" indicate where the problem is - and the text following explains the problem - ie. "Unable to find file" means the file, in all likelihood, no longer exists. "Unable to open file" usually means someone had the file open - it will usually also state an "error code" - ie - EC =Sharing Violation.
By modifying the job to skip the non-existing file, or open system file, the job will complete successfully.

Click on the Activity log Tab in Job Status view. Look for entries with red and or yellow explanation mark. Double click on them one at a time and a help file will appear to guide you as to why the error/warning existed. Arcserve is one big backup software and I would suggest you go to and select support. Select your product ARCServeIT. AE or WG and read the frequently asked questions and this may help. I'm in the same shoe as you and it's my task to look after ARCServe. I first was dealing with AE 6.61 SP2A and with the help of and the manuals I've accomplished the novice stage and upgraded to ARCServe 2000 and still learning. Wish you all the best and don't give up.

Cheers AP Alias (Poochie)
