Backup hangs on certain files

I can do a brick level backup of the exchange database, but when i try and backup the information store fails and the job never finishes. I have to stop the services to get the job to cancel. There is another file that the server does the same thing on. Other than those to things the backup seems to work ok. Any ideas on what could be causing this?

I am having the same problem with exchange 2000. Are you getting the error message:

The Backup Exec 8.x Job Engine service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 0 milliseconds: No action.

in your system log?
