backup for Netware

I am trying to restore a file that was backed up from a netware 5.1 server with BE for NW. I do not know the exact version they were using as I came into the job after the server had been rebuilt to NT 4. I am now trying to restore using BE for NT 7.2. I have tried restoring to a nw server and continue to receive a sparse file format error, which according to veritas is caused by trying to restore data backed up from a compressed nw volume to a noncompressed nw volume or an nt volume. Does it matter that I am restoring using BE for NT? Does it have to be NE for NW?
