Hello all,

I have been dealing with our Veritas backups failing for over a week now and it is driving us all nuts.

It seems we've narrowed the problem down to one component: the VSS on windows server 2003. Specifically, when I try to backup our Exchange 2003 server, we get the error listed at the bottom of this message.

It all points to the VSS and when I read up on the Veritas site, it really doesn't help....when I run the "VSSadmin list writers" command, all of the items listed have no errors but some list a state of "[5] Waiting for completion". Specifically, System Writer, IIS Metabase Writer, MS Exchange Writer, & WMI Writer.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to solve this? also, oddly enough, our incremental backups run just fine - this only happens on our full system backups.

We do have the Exchange and the Advanced Open File option installed and licensed for Veritas as well.

Thanks all,

Sam

Have you rebooted the exchange server?

Why are using Exchange Snapshots..dont use the AOFO option. Let the exchange agent backup exchange.

The error you getting is from the OS and not backup exec..backup exec is just relaying it to you.

Make sure you have the latest VSS fix from Microsoft installed on the server

Hmm, ok - so what i've done is turned off the AOFO option and am just using the straight exchange option.

Where can I get the VSS fix from MS? I tried searching for it , but couldn't find it.

Thanks!

Sam
