Yello all. I'm having a BUE problem which is causing me quite a bit of pain.
The story so far....
BU Server: 2ghz Xeon, 2KServer - sp3, Ultrium 200gb BU drive, BUE8.6,
I changed my administrator password about two months ago and now I get the remote backups on NT 4.0 machines hold and fail. I have tracked it as far as knowing it is a login problem between my BU server and the other servers on the network. All the NT servers were rebooted and logged in with the new credentials and initially it was all hunky-dory. But as the weeks went by, the NT servers stopped backing up.

I have checked that the password that BUE logs in with is valid, all the services on both the host and remote servers are running as system (I've tried changing the services log in as administrator)

The BU server can browse via windows but NOT through BUE8.6
If I attempt to connect to an NT server that is affected to either create a new bu job or edit an existing job, I get a login box and it doesn't matter what I enter it always comes back saying that it could not connect and that I may already be logged in with different credentials.

I'm stumped....

Cheers,

Pete

This is not good, this is the same exact question i came here to find the answer too. Situation is exactly the same except for the fact that since the password has changed, none of the remote back ups are working. Any thoughts and/or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Teri

- There's a password file on the Media Server which by the sounds of things has not picked up on the changes you made. Assuming you have the granted the BE service account the correct group priv. what you might want to do is refreshing this file by:

A) Stopping all BE (backup exec) services on the media server.
B) Rename the BEWINUI.UNI (password file)
C) Start all BE services (note: a new BEWINUI will NOT be created until you start the BE console)
D) launch the console and try a backup
E) if this fails......
F)....in the backup selections tab, drill down under remote selections etc until you see one of the NT4 servers, click on the servername (so that the netbios name is highlighted in blue) >> "Network" >> "reset default attach info." > in the user credentials enter the name of a local admin. a/c on the remote >> ""save" > run a backup

Make sure you Login
as BESA(Backup exec service account)

All BE services are running as this account on BE Server and Remote server and

RA(remote agent) is setup w/ same BESA service account
after you do the bewinui.uni file change above.

U can also run a debug to view what the services are connecting as to each service and remote machine,
this is the best way to see where the issue is on the password/access issue.

search veritas for debug and how to run one

Thanks Dog,

mostly fixed now. Stopped services, changed services to to log in as the admin account, restarted services, restarted BUE. Re-installed the remote agent on each remote server that was having trouble.

All now seems ok other than my novell 3 server. I am able to select items to backup and am able to attach to the server, but if I schedule a job, it is unable to attach and fails.

Cheers,

Pete.

- no problem
- Novell issue: does the BE service account have supervisor rights ? If not, this is a a must !!

Hope this helps
