Out network people can't seem to make Backup Exec backup our server containing 24 databases concurrently. They are currently using tapes, but we are thinking of doing parallel disks backup for our larges databases.

We would like to see multiple databases backing up at the same time on this server. I been trying to find information that would help point them in the right direction but to no avail. We are using SANs and it seems that we can reduce the backup times quit a bit more.

Is anyone using Backup Exec and doing multiple concurrent backups off the same server? We are running SQL Server 2005 running on 2003 OS.

Additional question... What is a restore like when using multiple tape devices instead of multiple disks when doing parallel backups?

Nether mind, it seems out Network people are not even beginning to utilize the full potential of Network exec. This seems to be a attitude problem and not a software problem, so I withdraw the question.

Thanks

Glen,
You are experiencing exactly what I have experienced in many of my contracts. The network and technical depts refuse to believe that a mere DBa would know as much as them, let alone have any experience... Hey ho - just watch the sloapy shoulders come out if a restore fails at a vital time!
Try and get them to do a DR test - if you can persuade management to do it then maybe some persuasion can be brough to bear from a different direction - just my 5-penneth.
If you are using the SAN as DB storage, do you have the opportunity to take snapshot backups? Modern SAN software can do this incedibly quickly. Also, finance providing, you can mirror your SAN to a remote SAN on another site - fibre link and mucho money though.
