Not sure if this is the correct forum.
I am still running an old Server with netware 3.X
My Backup Exec ver 7.5 quit working a few days ago. I've reboot the server a couple of times. The tape drive works because I can still rewind and eject. The software is not recognizing the schedules and executing them. This afternoon, as I pull the details of a scheduled backup that I created earlier, it read the wrong day. Today is April 24th, 2008 and it is Thursday, but the BE read April 24th, 2008 and it says Wednesday. How is that possible? The server showed the correct date, time and day. How do I fix the that crazy thing, besides getting rid of the server?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Question would have been more fitting in the Netware 3 forums that have been collecting dust for close to a year now :)

Have you tried to recreate the schedule?
Have you tried just reinstalling the application?

Kinda sounds like the database may have gone south on you

How could anyone still be running netware 4? That's like running Windows NT 4.0 server. Is it clueless corporate management that won't pay for upgrades or what??

he said NetWare 3, just posted in the wrong forums.

And hey, Netware 3 is solid. It just works :)

Umm - security vulnerabilities, problems with no patches to fix them, etc.

Well, it is an old system but it does what it does. I don't like it but my boss is cheap but pays me decent, so I can't complain. Anyhow, I got that backup to work again. It was not reading the schedule, new or old. I did not remember what I did to make it work. I was in the software trying to reset everything last weekend and a screen pop up and said it was "suspended". Never seen that before, so I chose to "unsuspend the activity" and it start backing up. The day is still wrong but it is backing up correctly. Go figure.

I agree that Netware 3 needs to go, but doubt that there are any vulnerabilities that are significant.

ttraider, how many users at your companY?

Marvin, On this system we have about 25 - 30 users, most of them part time. They are use for data entry. I can run this system for a couple of years without any down time. Outdated but works fine.

Here's the thing about being a tightwad with money... You're going to run your hardware into the ground and it will eventually fail, and you will be against a wall trying to recover data as well as support that old crap. It will cost you a lot more when it happens than if you were to update to newer hardware/software. You could do a full upgrade to latest version and it would cost you around $4k for the software (rough estimate). If you went with the Novell Open Workgroup Suite bundle (NOWS), this would give you full email and collaboration with GroupWise, OES2 (NetWare's replacement), ZENworks Suite, and more. Probably need new hardware, get a Dell for around $3K that will suffice. Want to add services, you could probably get a full migration for less than $5K. All in all, for less than $15K you could have a full makeover running state of the art equipment.

For a 30 user shop, this should be an easy thing to budget. It will cost you much more if your current system fails when you consider downtime, lost productivity, labor, hardware, etc. Emergency services are always more expensive because they usually have to happen at night/weekends when you aren't planning it.

We see this all the time and it's really 'pay now' or 'pay later'. Pay later always costs more.

Marvin, I agree with you 100%. But by boss screwed up the budget a few yearrs ago. The server is probably about 5 years old. We are planning to change next year. Have not decide on what system to go. The part-time users do not need e-mail or anything. Their job is to key in data.
