Hi all,

I remotely manage a Backup Exec server, and I'm having problems getting the job to 'time out'. Sometimes the onsite user forgets to put a tape it/swap tapes, etc and when they finally do insert the tape, the job takes off. I'd rather the job just fail after it's been running for a couple of hours without working. Is there any way to do this?

Please let me know,

Strahan

No dice. I'm using 8.6 (sorry - should have included that in the original post). Thanks for the suggestion. Please let me know if you have any other ideas.

This should do the trick, all you need to do is create a registry key which will automatically respond to the media alert you are getting ie. please insert overwritable media, just make sure you choose the right values according to the response you are getting:

How to configure VERITAS Backup Exec to automatically respond to media alerts, including when a backup hangs at 99% until the user responds to a tape eject prompt
