Backup Exec services will not start !

I have repeatedly tried to start the services but unsuccessful it give me an error message "Error 1068 the dependency service or group failed to start" That's when I try to start the Backup Exec server under services. Help !

check the other services and start them one by one until you get another error that doesn't have dependencies. Maybe the job engine? Could be an account problem like the password is wrong.

try starting them in the following order (BE 8.5)

"Backup Exec 8.x Alert Server"
"Backup Exec 8.x Agent Browser"
"Backup Exec 8.x Naming Service"

or for v.7

"Backup Exec 7.x Server" /Y
"Backup Exec 7.x Naming Service"
"Backup Exec 7.x Agent Browser"

I've seen this problem on our win2k server also. The only way I found to fix this problem is to bounce the server. While I really don't like doing this as this is not getting to the root cause of the problem, it fixes the immediate issue. Have you ever seen the Job Engine service die for no apparent reason?

Have you recently changed the password for the account that is logged in to your backup system? If you have, try going to the services, enter each backup exec service, and go to the security tab. You will find that the user assigned to the service has a password that must match your new password, or the service will not start. That goes for all of the BE services, so make sure you change all of them before you try to start any BE services. Once the passwords are correct you can either restart the system, or just start the Backup Exec Agent service. I think that is the service that starts all of the others.
