I have two problems.

1) I have installed Backup Exec 9.0 on an NT server and can back that one up but not others. I went through the process of installing the remote agent by performing it in the 9.0 menu. I then checked and verified that the service was running. I now get the following error:
Selection of this item is disabled.
You are not authorized to access this item. A licennse key for the Backup exec Remote agent for windows is not installed on the machine or the remote agent is old or incompatible.
Since I installed the agent from the 9.0 menu I don't think that the agent is old or incompatible.
Anyone fill me in on the remote licensing?

2) When I attempt to connect to another computer to install the remote agent I get an error that the RPC could not find the remote computer. This same computer did not allow Backup Exec to install and work and that is why the other computer has Backup Exec running on it.
Any ideas?

So was the remote agent "push" to remote servers successful??

I would recommend installing the remote agent on the servers locally (ie: use the CD). Check the install directory exists ,ensure the service is running etc etc.

In my experience (BE 8.6 - not sure about BE 9.0) not having a remote agent license key has never stopped the media server from doing a remote server backup as long as the remote agent is installed.

The push of the remote agent was successful.

What do I run from the CD to install the remote agent on the clients?

Browse to \WINNT\INSTALL\RANT32 on the cd & run setup. (On the client).

Cheers

I went to that file and ran it. Still the same error message. I read the BackupExec manual and it says that the license is not required if you load the remote agent. I will continue looking around. If anyone else has an idea, please let me know.

Thanks.

Do you have a remote agent license installed on the Backup Exec server?

That was my problem. I found where that is supposed to be defined and saw no remote agent license. Thanks.
