Hi

I am totally new to Backup Exec.

I have just joined a new company and it is my responsiblity to ensure backups are done correctly.

When I first joined I had to do a restore so clicked RESTORE and a window appears. In this box it listed all the previous backups and then you could expand the directories and select the file or directory you wanted to restore.

The trouble is I also notice that the server had not been rebooted for over six months so scheduled one that friday.

When the server came back up it obviously lost the history logs. I presumed the next backup that was done would then be registered and be shown in the history log, it wasnt and two weeks later they are still not appearing here under Restore. The backup is definately working but I just cant restore these files as I cant fint find a record of the files on tape.

HELP!!!

Can you give a little information about what your running (BE version, OS, agents installed, etc...).

Also, have you tried performing an Inventory and Catalog from the "Devices" tab on one of the tapes that isn't showing up. That should populate the "Restore Selections" tab with the appropriate data structure.

One last thing. If you are going by the "Restore Selections" tab to see what data is available to restore, try creating a new Restore Job from in the "Job Definitions" tab. Look in "Selections" area to see if the data structure shows up.

I hope this helps.

Thanks for the response

I am using Nt small business server running BE v7.3

I have tried performing a catalogue of the device but it still fails to show an expandible data structure. I havechecked the options under Restore but I am not able to expand Device view or even media view.

Its really annoying...

Cheers

Don't know if you've already found the answer to this, but you need to catalog the media before you can restore from it. That will allow you to select the files and/or folders on the media you can restore from.
