We are in the process of changing our backup procedure, which involves attaching to remote servers for backup. This is under multiple domains with both 2003 servers and 2000 servers. The problem is that I cannot attach to remote servers...BE is seeing a second domain and can browse the servers on it, but will not attach to them. It appeared to be an authentication issue at first, but we have checked and re-checked and everything is correct. I have also received the error that the RPC service is not running, which is not the case. I will also need to attach to and backup servers on outside domains as well.
This is a time sensitive project and this is the part that has been driving me nuts! If I can simply attach to the servers, everything else is gravy...any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I can supply the BE logs as well as system logs if needed.
Thanks in advance.

We have the same problem, have you found a solution yet?

Is there any update on this? I am planning a remote backup of a Win2k box running MS SQL.

I had forgotten about this...we found a solution and I forgot to post...what we ended up having to do was create the connections manually by using the netbios name...once the new object was created it worked like a charm. I am no longer with the company I was contracted to then...but that was the solution. Hope this helps.
