Backup Exec 9.0 and SQL Server 2000 - Cannot setup mail?

We have setup e-mail on the SQL Server to allow triggers to send e-mail (using xp_sendmail) and everything worked on the triggers. Prior to this, the BE software worked fine. After doing this, it fails to do backup, with an error message of "Unable to Attach to device...Access is denied". We have determined that the reasoning would be something to do with local vs. Administrator.

It appears that in order to setup mail, we need to be setup as Administrator, but in order to do the backup we must be setup as Local.

Is there a workaround for this? Or another way to setup either the e-mail services or Backup Exec services?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Correction/Update:

The error "Unable to Connect..." was a previous error that may or may not have been related to setting up the e-mail. The error that we are recieving when we activate the e-mail setup is "Database Query Error".

It almost seems as though when logged in as administrator, that it won't do a backup. I'm not sure why BE can't complete this, what would seem a simple task.

Thanks again for anyone who can help or point me in the right direction. :)

We have played with it some more, and still not working. Hoping someone can help us.
