Topic basicly explains it i have created a user in enterprise manager. Created an alias on the server backing it up, created a test backup for the server and it failed. Any sugestions?

I suggest you cause SQL to back itself up, and then use BE to tranfer that backup to tape.

1. You don't have the Backup Exec Agent for SQL Server installed. Without that it's not going to work.

2. You are trying to backup/copy the actual .mdf/.ldf files. That doesn't work and while you might be able to copy them to tape, they won't be restorable - UNLESS the database is offline when you copy those files.

Follow Lawnboy's suggestion. Do the native SQL Server backup to disk and then use Veritas to copy the backup file to tape.

If you are using the SQL agent then yes you need to have the SQL license installed and also Enterprise manager needs to be installed on the backup server.
