Let me see if I can explain this well enough for someone to be able to help me out here. Well I just was all the sudden thrust into this job, cause my boss unexpectedly quit. So I am learning this stuff 'trial by fire' way. So please bear with me here if I forget something. And I just want to say I am new here, so thanks in advance for any help someone might be able to provide me with!

We have a Dell LTO autoloader that has 8 tapes in it. We have the server doing backups to the LTO. No problems there.

The Media Set properties are set to Infinite - Don’t Allow Overwrite.
The Append Period is ALSO set to Infinite - Allow Append. The Media overwrite protection level is set to Partial - protect only allocated media.

So now a lot of the tapes are having the overwrite setting being Infinite still and the append being none. And that is why I think I am getting the error where its saying 'insert an over writeable media error...' that everyone has seen before I think.

So I guess my question is this, should I be changing that Overwrite Period from Infinite to a week or two? Just wondering if that is causing my problem where the takes fill up with appends and nothing can be overwritten. Does this make sense? Thanks again for any help here!!
