Very strange occurances with Backup Exec as of late. Our backups were running smooth for over a year. Now I can run a backup job right away. But any scheduled job has the following symptoms.

Alert - "Please remove the media from the drive"
Alert - "Please insert overwritable media into the drive"

I have the overwrite set to 3 days. The tapes are used once every 7 days. I will also include the most recent log file. Please give me any info you can.

Oh yes. NT 4.0 sp6. Exchange 5.5

Hi, Joseph: I have the same thing occurring. I get it almost every night. It works fine for a week or two and then I get this message every 2 out of 3 days or so for another few weeks. I have no idea and am searching for answers. I'll check back to see if anyone else can help.

Hi,

Couple of times this had happened to me. Once I had to clear the drive using cleaning catridge. Next time had to repalce the DLT.

It seems I have averted this problem. THe problem seemed to be that when I would put in a tape and look at the tape from the device tab the label was '?'. Now every night I make sure that the tape that is inserted is recognized and it has been working.

Thanks to all who gave input. Chris
