backup exec 8.0 (veritas)

Hi we are using veritas backup exec 8.0 in a dell poweredge 2400 server which is running winnt 4.0 server. The problem we are facing is that when we run the full (normal)backup. During the completion of the backup the server hangs. I am able to ping the server from network but the server console hangs. we are using the sony DAT drive as the hardware.
Do anyone have the solution for this or any fix have been given to this. Kindly help me out.
