These LDF files are going to kill me yet.
Anyway, here's the story so I'll spin it for you quick.
Was using Backup Exec 11D to backup a small database (MDF=Only 3 Megabytes).
Currently, the .LDF file for this database is 8 Gigs.
I think the reason this happened was because the SQL database was in FULL mode and it wasn't getting log backups.
Anyway, I set the database mode to simple because I don't give a **** about a point in time backup for this database and I just want the .LDFS back to a small size.
I've then run a backup on this database, hoping that Backup Exec would then shrink the .LDF automatically.
Is there something I'm still missing? I don't want to have to do anything in the SQL enterprize manager or studio besides to go there and change the mode options.
I want Backup Exec to do all the rest. Is this feasable?
I think if this database would have always been in Simple mode, this .LDF would never have grown to be so big, but since it has, I would like Backup Exec to be able to shrink the physicial size of it without having to rely on any dbshrink commands, etc., or anything issued on the SQL server itself. I just need to know if that is possible or not? All the reading I have done on .LDF's is very cumbersome to say the least.
Thanks
