I recently upgraded from version 9.1 to 10d. I installed the new software on the server that handles our backups, it installed properly, I put the license in and everything seemed to be working. I then installed the remote agents on two other servers which also worked. The problem is, when I go into a current job or try to create a new one, I cannot tell the software to backup anything remotely, I can only access what is on the server that I installed 10d on. I then tried uninstalling and reinstalling the remote agents, and restarted all of the servers, but still came up with the same issue. Does anyone have any ideas on this?

It looks like your backup exec server still cant see your agents. To verify this go to job setup on the backup exec server->right click on the backup selection->properties->resource credentials->test all...if the tests come out unsucessful then it is verified. From here try these:

-make sure your remote agent is also installed on your backup exec server and all of the backup exec services are running
-make sure your backup exec service are running on the remote computers
-make sure no other services are listening on the same port as backup exec (10000 I believe). You can do this from a dos window with: netstat -a
-if your remote servers are behind a firewall, port 10000 may be closed...you may have to open this port.

Thats all I can think of for now...let me know how it goes!

Ok, I ran the test and everything came out successful, so would it still be a possiblity that one of the things you mentioned below could still be a problem?

Did you install the Remote Agents locally, or remotely from the Media Server?

You really should roll those remote agents out from your Media Server. There are some certificates and settings that are created, and if you install a remote agent locally you'll have to create them yourself. Doable, but painful.

I'd uninstall the RAs, then install to those boxes from the Media Server.

Yeah I installed the remote agents from the media server, and have actually uninstalled and reinstalled them, so I should be covered there.

Since you can connect successfully that means you can ping them so it is not a problem connecting to the computers, so its either a problem connecting to port 10000 where backup exec listens on, or a problem with the remote agents.
1.Make sure the backup remote agent service is logged on as LocalSystem
2. Make sure that the dependant services are running for the remote agent service
3. Be sure to turn off a firewall blocking that port or enable that port on the firewall
4. Check to see if any other services are running on that port.
From your media server, see if you can telnet those machines through port 10000. If you cant then you definately know its a problem with the port.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the help, it seems to be a licensing issue, I just have to call Symantec and get things squared away.
