I have been struggling with an issue for months now. I have an HP 1/8 Autoloader with an Ultrium232 drive. I am constantly getting A0 and A1 errors on the loader and my jobs in Backup Exec just hang until power is cycled on the autoloader. I occassionally get good backups, and after a day or two the loader fails again with these errors. However, if I disconnect the loader from the server I can move the tapes around all I want with no problems. I ran through the long cycle test (1,000+ cycles) and it worked fine. In Windows I get 5 or 6 errors in the System log, indicating the SCSI status has changed from 2 (ok) to 4 (failed) and then back. I have tried upgrading to SP3 of Backup Exec. I did upgrade the firmware of the loader and drive around the time I started having these problems. Any help on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Dodgy SCSI cable? It sounds more like a communications issue than a tape drive issue.

I would check:
o Physical SCSI cable
o SCSI Termination
o SCSI conflicts in SCSI ID's

Just my 2¢
