I'm trying to do a backup of 2 of my sharepoint sites

i'm using the stsadm command (stsadm.exe -o backup -url //ipaddress/sitename -filename etc....)and it gives me the error that site is not a top level site.

Is the a way to do the backup through the command line for a non top level site? or do i have to change them to top level sites and if so how do i do that?

any feed back would be nice

thanks

It is a https site not http.

is there another way to backup https sites

Well as the error message states is it a top level site?
If not use the smigrate tool.

Hello,

As ChaserNL says, you can't backup a subsite with stsadm.exe tool. That tool is used to backup entire site collections (including subsites).

The smigrate.exe tool works fine to backup subsites with, however it does not let you backup users or user-rights etc.

Thomas
