Hi,

I am new to act and have just created a whole new database, imported all my requried information, and now it won't let me backup!

The error I am receiving is;

"The following error occurred during backup. The backup was cancelled.

The process cannot access the file 'C:\Documents and Settings\jgriffin\Local Settings\Temp\tmpDB.tmp' because it is being used by another process'

The file name always starts tmp but the two digits that follow change.

Any suggesstions would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I am backing up through act; File> Backup> Database

No, the database is held on the server.

\\Sbsserver\metrosmtact\Sbsserver\Metrosmtact

C:\Documents and Settings\jgriffin\My Documents\ACT\ACT For Windows 9\Backup\ACT! Metro_BusinessDevelopment.zip

I have tried several locations and no joy.

Does it happen if running the Backup on the server or another workstation?

If so, does it happen if you open and Bacup the demo database?

Hi Mike,

I am having the same issue. I tried backing up the demo database and it ran successfully.

It is the company database that is not runing the backup.

One thing I noticed very recently is when I open the database it comes with a login password and after authenticating, it brings up another window for security check and I don't know how to disable this. Just cancelling that takes me to the database as an admin. Any recommendation is appreciated.

Thanks,
Subbiah

Yes, I have tried running the back up from the ACT server locally and also from a workstation trying to save the backup to the desktop, and both result in this error.

Each time I run the backup the temp filename differs, but is pointing to the same folder locally to that machine.

I found this from Sage's KB, not sure if this is a safe solution to try:

Please share your insight. Thanks!

You'll want to check the two sets of supplemental files to see if any were not brought across.

Sometimes, odd things will happen if attached files (or other supplemental files) have special characters in the file name (commas, apostrophes, etc) or are read only or have some other security setting that prevents SQL from being able to control them
