backup defaults

This may be a simple request - but I'd love to know the answer.
Is there a way of changing the defaults on the 'Backup' pane? In particular to change the default to 'overwrite existing media'.

Nope, cause that's not where you do that. The Backup pane is just the 'dump devices' (sp_addumpdevice). To actually do a backup you need to either have a Maintenance job, or create a backup job manually. Look in SQL Agent>Jobs. Find the job that does your backup and you should be able to add WITH INIT to the job.
