Big Lucy needs your help again.......
I want to backup my data, on a sx2000 you have to Vol mount RSD here system database backup enter is there a default file name? My ? is how is the backup preformed?
As always your help is greatly appreciated
B.L.
On the SX2000 RSD Data Save you can "name" the file whatever you like. Obviously something terse yet meaningful.
Pop the -NEW- disk into the drive
Enter the command VOL FOR RSD (WHATEVER) SCR <enter>
I emphasized "new" because it is my understanding once you have performed a "scratch" format on an RSD disk you don't have to do it again. In other words, once previously formatted the the format command would be VOL FOR RSD (WHATEVER)
The first command is a full format, the second is what you might think of as a "quick format" which overwrites only the directory structure and file allocation tables.
In either event the system will ask for confirmation.
Answer yes, then wait for it to complete. Takes maybe 5~10 mins for a full scratch format, only 5~secs for a quick format, then you'll see a message stating that it has completed.
Once it completes perform the data save using the command, DATA SAVE *.(WHATEVER NAME YOU USED) and press <enter>
Once the data save completes enter the command VOL DISM (WHATEVER NAME YOU USED) here use only the "name" not *.name - (it will eventually auto-dismount itself if you ignore it for a while (dunno how long)
Examples:
VOL FOR RSD 052605 SCR
confirm it (Yes)
Format proceeds then
Format completes. Now enter
DATA SAVE *.052605
Process proceeds.... can take up to an hour on a large system. Finally the system reports data save completed.
then enter VOL DISM 052605
you can now remove the RSD disk.
On an SX200EL all you can do (I think) is a KERMIT file transfer via the maintenance port. The SX200ICP supports more options, either via the maintenance port or via FTP to an external FTP host.
I'm sorry I did'nt make myself clear I can backup my SX2000's, my question is how on the 200 it's in Hawaii and I'm in Texas so I wont be on site just thru ProcomPlus
You can still back up the Mitel SX-200 with ProComm Plus if you are remote. I am assuming that you have remote access.
Set up your Procomm for VT-100, 9600, N-8-1, ASCII.
After you have dialed the remote access modem number and Procomm confirms that you are connected, Press enter 4-5 times to wake up the maintenance terminal on the SX-200. Choose 1 for VT-100 Terminal. Then Choose 1 for Maintenance. You will be prompted for a user name. The user name will be INSTALLER, MAINT1, OR MAINT2. After entering in the user name, you will be prompted for the password, hopefully you have that.
Once logged in, you would choose the softkey 1 for SYSTEM. Then Choose 3 for Database. Then Choose the softkey 1 for BACKUP. Then 1 for Kermit. Press 0 or enter. You will then be prompted for a file name, keep it short. (you will find the file after the backup is done in the Download folder of Procomm Plus.) You will then be prompted to CONFIRM you action. Before confirming, I like to change my Procomm setting from ASCII to KERMIT. Then I confirm. You may have to click on the "RECEIVE FILE" icon to start the transmission. Backups are typically about 5 minutes.
Thanks Mitelguy that will help for sure, I went to school in Kanata to get certified on the SX2000 and in the class the instructor was saying forget about the 200 this is different, well now I see what he meens I've self taught myself on the 200 just not to comfortable on a few things and with all the changes I've made (and this is a lodging site)I really would like to have the data backed up. So I guess there is no RSD is this correct
As always your help is greatly appreciated

Correct, no RSD (or tape, or disk) for backup on the 200EL. Kermit only and this backs up the data in your programming forms only. Kermit cannot backup the voice mail (if you even have voice mail). There is no available means to backup the installed software (operating system) either other than to keep a copy while you're installing (or upgrading).
By comparison, on the 200ICP you can perform the same Kermit backup as well as both medium and full backups of the voice mail. Medium backups get all the programming forms (like Kermit) as well as the programmed data in voicemail and I think the voicemail greetings and auto attendant stuff but not the messages. Voice mail messages are backed up only when you perform a full backup. By virtue of its name, a full backup gets everything, forms included. With the 200ICP both a medium and full backup require FTP and can be performed either locally or remote and either saved to a folder on your laptop or uploaded to a centralized FTP server that can be reached from the network. Still, as with the 200EL, there is no means to backup the operating system other than to keep a copy while you're doing the original install (or upgrade).
I can understand your desire to make a backup. You should always backup your programming data every time you make a change. It takes only a minute so there's no valid excuse not to. Your customer will appreciate your being able to get everything back like it was if there's ever a problem.
