Hi,

Our company has a production database (sql2000) on a server in China.

In the UK we run sql7.0. Is it possible for me to make a backup of the database in China and restore it to the SQL server in the UK, after transferring the backup file over a secure connection.

If not, is there anyway in which I can achieve my aim given the geographical implications?

TIA,
Chris

Hi,

We run 7 and 2000 servers in our organisation and to my knowledge you cannot restore 2000 backups to a 7 server.

If you can connect to the remote server in China you may be able to create a DTS package to copy the objects from the 2000 database into a pre-created one on the 7 database in the UK (you may have to do this from the 2000 server as you might not be able to connect to the 2000 server using 7 tools).
Otherwise I think you're going to have to upgrade your 7 server to 2000.

Good luck,

Nathan
